Making the Most of My Mary Kay Journey

To those who may be concerned about my emotional or financial well-being… March 22, 2007

beach-smiley.jpgI have had a lot of guests visit my blog in the last 24 hours, and there are apparently some folks out there that are concerned with my decision to become a director. I felt like maybe I needed to address this a bit further, and decided to do it in a separate post. I would like anyone and everyone to comment on what I have to say, as long as we can all remain civil. I am not the type to bad-mouth anyone, and I will not allow it here. With that being said….

Welcome, to all of my visitors from PT, and other websites. I know that some of you feel like I should run, screaming, RIGHT NOW. I am not going to do that. I am a smart woman, with my head screwed on tightly. I do not have any delusions that I will become filthy rich in MK. I know that it is a possibility, but I’m not holding my breath. My decision to join MK was a very personal one, and is one that is supported by the people that mean the most to me, my family. You can rest assured that my children are not being neglected. “Mommy” has a job, (just like most mom’s do) the only real difference is that my hours are a little different than most. Outside of this week, I do not work non-stop. (My children are with their father for spring break.) I spend more time with them than I ever did with my previous jobs, and I’m not nearly as stressed, so they enjoy being with me more.

As far as becoming a director is concerned, it was also a personal decision. I do not feel any pressure from anyone to do this. If it doesn’t happen, I won’t feel like a failure. If it does, then great! I’ve accomplished a goal! It is just one of those things that I would like to do, kinda like I would enjoy learning how to arrange flowers. (Yes, I would actually like to do that, and one of these days I will.)

Now to the thing that seems to bother A LOT of people. The financial stuff. I am not sinking into debt. As a matter of fact, in the last couple of months, I have been able to pay off a couple of things that I have wanted to for quite some time. No, I am not making an “executive income” but I am making enough to actually get rid of some of my debt. I am by no means drowning. I don’t live for prizes, so I won’t buy my status in MK. Yes, there are some things that I would like to earn, but I will EARN them if I get them. I only order what I need to order to replace what my customers have purchased. That is the only thing that makes sense to me, and I will continue to work my business this way.

With all of that having been said, I want to clarify one last thing. I am not going to bash anyone on PT. It’s not my style. While I may not share your views, I respect your right to have them. If I have said anything, on any website, that has come across as hurtful or spiteful, I apologize. I did not intend for it to be that.

I wish you all the best in whatever it is that you choose to do in your life. I hope that you will do the same for me.

tp, one thing that I have learned throughout this whole mess of anti/pro mk is that no matter what you say in your defense of staying with your mk business and no matter how civil you come across..many that follow PT or other anti blogs will still find a reason to find fault with your intentions. Therefore you dont owe anyone an explanation about why you want to go for directorship. We know that you have not been pushed into it, but PT and other mk haters will see it that way. Every post that I have ever read of yours has always been civil, but I’m sure you can see that you still get critized and talked about as if you had stolen something. Just keep your head up, play by that golden rule..keep God first and you cannot go wrong. Even if you dont make director, so what..you know all the risks and take it for what it is. You can only be better for the experience. I got my money on you girl!…

Thanks FP! I think my real intent of this post was to make it clear that I accept all of the responsiblity for the choices I make. I’m not the type to be forced into something. I do try to live my life by the golden rule, and so far, it seems to be working for me. I am not here to criticize anyone. I don’t like myself when I do that, so I am not going to. I really is that simple for me.

Based on everything I have seen I think YOU will make an AMAZING Director! You go girl!

  4. turningpink Says:

Thanks PYNK! I certainly hope so!

I am a former MK consultant. That being said props to you for
    1. standing up for what you believe in
    2. taking the “slow and steady” way of earning your prizes.

I wish you all the luck in the world!

TP: You rule, shake the haters off and keep up the good work! :)

Sykotia & MKR, thanks. You guys have no idea how much it means to me that you all are here to support me. I have so much support at home, but a person can never have enough when they are trying to reach their goals. I have to go now. My debut starts in 3 1/2 hours, and I have a TON of stuff to do. I hope I don’t have time to update you all tonight on how it goes. (I’m not trying to be mean, but I am SURE I will be too busy placing my order for all the things that I will need to replace out of my inventory and getting ready for all of the classes I will be having in the next couple of weeks!) I’ll update you all as soon as I can! Have a great day everyone!

  8. mkrules Says:

How did the debut go?? I am dying to hear!! :)

  9. mkhonesty Says:

    Congratulations!

Re prizes and awards: they are the sprinkles on the icing on the cake. The icing is your commission based on the performance of your unit, especially your personal team members. The cake is your own sales and that of the consultants in your unit. A cake which is all icing and sprinkles has no foundation and will not stand for long. The icing will melt. Everything I have seen in over 21 years of being associated with MK (through my wife) shows this to be true. Do not “coast” as a new director. Get to and maintain 30 personal team members.

I won’t say “good luck”, because luck has nothing to do with your success. You worked and you earned the position.

  10. mkhonesty Says:

Oops … I “gots confused” by MJR comment about the debut and though it was your own. I didn’t read enough other posts. :-)

That said, nothing is really changed in my comment. Earn the position and you will be proud of it. My only warning: it sounds like you are the kind of person that loves to put together a big, fancy event. That can really eat into your time and profit. Be careful on what you (and your hostesses) are spending when preparing for a class or open house. Your hostess does not need to spend hours preparing a full course meal for her guests (although in some cultures that may be expected). Have fun, but make it professional.

I am so glad I found your site and the other pro-mk sites! PT is a bad, bad, bad place!!! Don’t want to go there anymore!! Too scary!!! Started walking towards the light, I mean Dark Side! But then, there was beautiful music playing (or was that the radio?), And the heavens opened up! I had an overwhelming sense that I was beening lied to and deceived by the other site and I needed to turn away from the “bad” site and go back towards the “pink” sites! Where could the “pink” sites be and do they even exist? And then I found them!

Seriously, thanks for your blog. I was really at the point of giving up my business, influenced by what I was reading on PT, then I found your blog and the other pro-mk sites. Thanks, and lets get the word out on these pro-mk sites, so no one will ever have to go to that “bad” place again!

Hi Betty! I am so happy that you have made a choice about your business that you feel good about. It is a very personal decision, and we must all do what is best for our own situations. We must also make sure that we take responsibility for the things that happen in our businesses. It’s always easy to take credit for the good things that we do, but it’s not as easy to take credit for the things we do that aren’t so good.

I am honored that you like my blog. I hope you have visited the others that are listed in my blogroll. All of these people are wonderful, and really know what they are talking about. I feel like they run their businesses in the way I want to run mine. Ethically, and with a true desire to help others. May God bless you in all that you do!

  13. Colleen Says:

I want to wish you the best of luck in your endeavors
by becoming a director…I know that you are an independent thinker and that you will do well!!!!

  14. mkrules Says:

Betty, glad you came back to the “pink” side! Everything in life is based on your attitude. Each person has a different perspective and often looks for things to support their beliefs. We can choose to look for the good or the bad in every situation. That site may hold a few “truths”, but it is also very skewed to place EVERYTHING in a negative light. That is the mission. So it is great that you want to stay away. Just know you can do what ever you think you can, and don’t let anything or anyone get you down!
